Today I am showing postcard I got recently from my dear pal Melissa. It represents St. Thomas - amazing island with breathtaking landscapes located in the Caribbean, in the United States Virgin Islands. These islands are insular area of the US. The U.S. Virgin Islands consists of the main islands of St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas. Tourism is the primary economic activity, although there is a significant manufacturing sector. The islands normally host 2 million visitors a year, many of whom visit on cruise ships.
The islands were named by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage in 1493 for Saint Ursula and her virgin followers. Over the next two hundred years, the islands were held by many European powers, including Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, and Denmark-Norway.
The capital of St. Thomas is called Charlotte Amalie (what a cool name! :)).
Thanks again dear Melissa! You live on such an awesome place! :)
