Pacaya, Guatemala

Pacaya is an active complex volcano in Guatemala, which first erupted approximately 23,000 years ago. Pacaya rises to an elevation of 2,552 metres. After being dormant for a century, it erupted violently in 1965 and has been erupting continuously since then. It is a popular tourist attraction. Pacaya lies 30 kilometres southwest of Guatemala City and close to Antigua.
If you enjoy watching photos of volcanoes (like I do), I recommend you this link where you can see awesome photos of the Pacaya volcano.
Many thanks to florencia for another lovely volcano postcard in my collection! :)

Guatemala

Tikal is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centres of the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization. The site is part of Guatemala's Tikal National Park and in 1979 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tikal was the capital of a conquest state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. Though monumental architecture at the site dates back as far as the 4th century BC, Tikal reached its apogee during the Classic Period, ca. 200 to 900 AD. Following the end of the Late Classic Period, no new major monuments were built at Tikal and there is evidence that elite palaces were burned. These events were coupled with a gradual population decline, culminating with the site’s abandonment by the end of the 10th century. Tikal is the best understood of any of the large lowland Maya cities, with a long dynastic ruler list, the discovery of the tombs of many of the rulers on this list and the investigation of their monuments, temples and palaces.

As always, Otto used beautiful stamps! Muchas gracias!

Guatemala

Guatemala is a country in Central America. Its area is 108,890 km² with an estimated population of 13,276,517. The former Mayan civilization was a Mesoamerican civilization, which continued throughout the Post-Classic period until the arrival of Spanish. The Mayans lived in Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, the southern part of Mexico and northern parts of El Salvador before European settlers arrived.

Guatemala has 37 volcanoes, four of them are active: Pacaya, Santiaguito, Fuego and Tacana. Fuego and Pacaya erupted in 2010. This beautiful postcard shows Fuego, Pacaya and Agua. Love them!

Many thanks to dear Otto for sending me awesome postcard with beautiful stamps! I love postmark of Guatemala, it's really special and unique.
