Samoa

Last postcard for today is one of the dearest ones in my collection... It's from Samoa, a country far, far away. Samoa is a country encompassing the western part of the Samoan Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. It became independent from New Zealand in 1962. The two main islands of Samoa are Upulu and one of the biggest islands in Polynesia, Savai'i. The capital city, Apia, and Faleolo International Airport are situated on the island of Upolu. The entire island group, inclusive of American Samoa, was called Navigators Islands by European explorers before the 20th century because of the Samoans' seafaring skills. Kyle, sender of this postcard, says that he enjoys his time spent in Samoa. He especially likes coconuts and driving with buses. Public transportation is real cultural experience - position in bus is determined by age and position within village.

I've never saw stamps like these before. One, with value of $1.60 is shape din form of pineapples, and other one, with value of $1.40 is butterfly shaped! So cool and awesome! Huge thanks goes to dear Kyle, who is volunteering as a PCV in Samoa, and teaches Samoan kids. If you would like to send postcard to Samoan kids, email me, and I will give you details. Fa'afetai Kyle!
