Ivory Coast

It's time for Africa! :) Postcard for today is from Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire), country in western part of Africa. Its de jure capital is Yamoussoukro and the biggest city is the port city of Abidjan. The country is divided into 19 regions and 81 departments. The official language is French, although many of the local languages are widely used. The main religions are Islam, Christianity (primarily Roman Catholic) and various indigenous religions. The 21st century Ivoirian economy is largely market-based and relies heavily on agriculture, with smallholder cash crop production being dominant.

The postcard I got shows bridge built of lianas. I guess I would never been able to pass through it, looks dangerous... :) This bridge is located in Man Department. Man is a town in the west of central Côte d'Ivoire. It is an important market town lying between mountains including Mount Toura and Mount Tonkoui, the two highest in the nation, and La Dent de Man, popular with hikers. The city lies near an airport and is also known for a nearby waterfall.

Man is an agricultural region. There are many cocoa, rice, coffee, banana, and soybean plantations. The region of Man is the largest producer of coffee in the Ivory Coast.

Thanks a lot to Natalia, who sent this postcard from Yamoussoukro, using beautiful train stamp issued in 1999.
