Bratislava, Slovakia

This postcard shows the view of Bratislava Castle, and equestrian statue of King Svatopluk I at the Honorary Courtyard of the castle. It's the main castle in Bratislava. The massive rectangular building with four corner towers stands on a quite isolated rock hill of the Little Carpathians directly above the Danude river in the middle of Bratislava. It is an outstanding feature of the city. It provides an excellent view of Bratislava, of Austria and, when there is good weather, of Hungary. One more postcard in my collection where it's written Serbia (Srbsko means Serbia in Slovakian) below Montenegro (Čierna Hora in Slovakian).
Merci Jean-Pierre!

Demänovská Ice Cave, Slovakia

Demanovska Ice Cave is the second lagest cave of its kind in Slovakia, and is known since the Middle Ages. Though the first reference to it is from 1299, it was opened to the public only in the 1880's. The entrance is at the altitude of 840 m. It consists of four floors with a total length of 2.5 km. Its ice filling is about 400-500 years old. This cave is also known for the bones of cave beat found there. They were taken for remnants of drake in 18th century. It is the reason why it was also called the Dragon Cave.
A huge thanks to dear Michaela who surprised me with this beautiful postcard from her trip to Slovakia! Michaela has a great postcard blog, check it out here.
